The Meaning of Happiness

Everyone on this planet wants to be happy, but what does happiness mean?

If you ask 100 people they will give you 100 different answers. Everyone I have talked to answers the question that happiness means having their wants and needs fulfilled. In other words when I have everything I want and need then I will be happy. What I hear from them is they are never going to be happy, because no matter what people have, they always want more. This may explain why so many USA residents have been diagnosed at one point with depression or prescribed antidepressants. It is an amazing thought: one of the richest countries in the world, one the rest of the world looks up to, has so many people who are depressed.

I believe people around the world should be taught what happiness is in first grade and be reminded at least once a year for the rest of their lives.

So you want to know how to be happy?

It is so simple; yet people like to make it so hard, ok no more teasing….

Happiness means thankfulness – when you thankful for what you have – you are happy. That’s one of the reasons lower income countries have their coefficient of happiness higher than more established countries. Because it takes a lot less to make them happy!!! If you are thankful for what you have, you are happy. If you ignore it, you are not happy.

The world we live in is very simple. It is very easy to be happy in it, but most of us will hold on to our misery and dissatisfaction with what we have and will spend the rest of our lives looking for happiness, even though we already have all ingredients in place.

  1. Happiness is the state of mind brought on by the willingness to be pleased with what you have, devoid of care for what others want, and the satisfaction of knowing the path your on is the right one for you.

      1. Like Mark Twain Said: “The more I get to know people, the more I love dogs” and another celebrity ad to it “If that is wrong, I do not want to be right”

  2. Absolutely spot on post. Happiness is about being thankful every day. I keep a Gratitude Journal and every single day I write what I’m grateful for. Even the smallest things make a big difference.

  3. Yes, i agree. Also, being contented with what you have attracts happiness. There are people who do not even have that much. One should aspire for more, but be patient for the right time and right opportunities! Happiness will follow! This is a great post! thanks for sharing!
